The article: “Essays on the Blurring of Art and Life”, written by Allan kaprow. His essays are some of the most thoughtful, provocative, and influential of his generation. He uses his own experiences to express the art. He brushes his teeth in the morning when he wakes up. Because he focuses on his elbow movement’s direction which are moving up and down for the mirror. He said: “The practice of such an art, which isn’t perceived as art, is not so much a contradiction as a paradox.” (219) No gallery, critic to judge, publicity. He just stays in his bathroom and pay attention to brush his teeth, to watch his elbow moving. I think he is a real art, because artists not only draw an abstraction picture, but also draw a picture, which is focusing real life. I like his words: “Art shifted away from the specialized object in the gallery to the real urban environment; to the real body and mind.” (222)

But, I cannot understand what the mean of: “Anything less than paradox would be simplistic.”

Project 2

I drive car to go to school every day. After parking, I walk and use cell phone’s GPS to navigate the building which is my class’s building. Then, I will see the room number which is my classroom. If the room number is 3, then I will go to third floor. When I arrive to third floor, I will see the small map which is burst into view on the wall. Following the map’s guide, for example, under the room number 355, people need to toward the left or greater than 355, people need to toward the right. So, it is very easy to find our class room. but for the art education class, the teacher post a logo on the wall that it becomes navigation to help student to find the classroom more easily. following this picture, i success to find the room within 30s. For the five senses activated, we just use vision; we use eyes to see pictures.

Before we already take 30 pictures to anneal myself, I know what picture I need to take and what vision I need to use, in order to show in different picture. I took almost 10 pictures; finally I use 7 pictures in my universal map. First picture is my home which I took it from my home’s garden. Second and third pictures I took it on the road, I like it very much because I like sky in the morning which is very blue.  And then I took a picture which is bridge, I pass it every day.  Also I like this bridge at night because of the light. Another three pictures which are “stop” sign, road and rpac in the school. I look at stop sign every day that it reminds me to stop a car and people need to across the road first. The stop sign is red which are very conspicuous. Finally, rpac is my terminal place which is nearly to my classroom.

The article: “Janet Cardiff, George Bures Miller and the Power of Sound” takes people to go into new perceptions. People will understand and delights of the world. Also, including the ideas and expressions and experiences, Cardiff’s voice and journey, which are unforgettable. I am very interested in when people hear a reoccur sound, which can make people feel sympathy. The author uses his experience to make people reliance. When talking about they married, “At one point in Toronto — I must have been 23 or so — we were so poor that we tried panhandling,” Miller said. It arouses people’s pity.
I cannot understand that “It was loud enough to make the trailer shudder, but what made me clutch at the corners of the table wasn’t simply its volume. Like the hundreds of other noises out of which “Forest” has been fashioned — the cawing of ravens, the hiss of wind, radio static, laughter, gunfire — the explosion felt as real to me as my own heartbeat.

He introduces some rooms in gallery. First he went to a room where the pictures aren’t pictures of anything, only splodges.  Then he went to another room where there aren’t many pictures. “There are bits of animals all over the place, and a tent, and ping-pang balls floating on air currents”(105) when I was reading these, I feel it is not look like art, but perhaps is a form of art. Also he went to other rooms, some pictures which are cows. But, there are real cows in his room. The most interested thing is that he uses an example to describe his job like that he is the last passenger in the boss’s bus.

I cannot understand what the meaning of “I’ve got an onion now. A fucking onion” why he will mention onion at the end of paper? What is the relationship between onion and this article? “But my chair’s by the onion, and it bores me shitless, because there’s nothing to think about onion, is there?”(125)

The article “Big Ideas and Artmaking" From the article, I can understand what are the big ideas and big ideas are important for the professional artists on the working.  Also big ideas can help people to think more deeply. He talks from four subjects to describe big ideas and artmaking, for example, “Developing Big Idea”, “From big idea to artmaking”, “Subject matter or Big Idea”, “A unit of Study”, “Artist Talk” and “Same Big Idea; Different subject matter” Step by step to analyze Big ideas and Artmaking and attract people to learn it more deeply. The author uses a Bartlett example to analysis “Artists frequently transfer big ideas from one subject to another” such as rules and systems with different subjects.
One question about artmaking for student, It is difficult to understand what the meaning of “The big idea provides the conceptual ground for artmaking; the subject matter serves as the context for examining the big idea.”

Terry Barrett posts a picture which is a monster with lots of stuff, such as knife, gun and so on at the beginning of the article. It will attract me to think about what the article talking about? The article “Interpreting Visual Culture” discusses Dentations and Connotations in the art. He uses different picture to analysis, such as using these words to talk about a magazine cover which is the popular music group “Destiny’s Child” he uses art skills to narrate this picture which is on the cover of Rolling Stone, three women. He analyzes these three girls one by one through these girl’s clothes, linguistic message, and so on by using Dentations and Connotations.  I know what the meaning of these two words from the article “Denotations are what you literally see in a picture; connotations are what the things and words imply or suggest by what”
I cannot understand why the preschool children are able to use the denotations and connotations, because this article tries to use animal to answer this question.
