Shixiao Xu Blog 2

In the article “Kidd the Cheese Monkeys Excerpt” introduces three things which are existing on two-dimensional plane, Left to Right, Top to Bottom and Big and Small. I am interested in talking about how “A appear to be in front of B” from the article. I learned some options that how we can do that. First, we can make A more bigger than B. Second, the method is overlap, it is a very unusual way to think about it. When the author talked about Big and Small, he uses an example which is how people make tomato to look like bigger. If one wants to address how big the tomato it is, it is better to fill the entire picture with red tomato.
I don’t understand why the author quotes Enemy story at beginning in the article. Also why he mention to the Viruses? “When a host dies, he takes his virus with him. Viruses are fools- they work toward their own extinction” (113) what is the relationship between Viruses with two-dimensional plane?
The article “The Heresy of Zone Defense” by Dave Hickey, he talks about civilizing rules by using 1980 NBA finals game’s third quarter which Lakers versus Seventy-Sixers. He combines basketball with art which attract me to think about how is relationship between basketball with art. Then I try to find the answer through the article, the answer is “art purports to embody that image—the fact remains that every style change that basketball has undergone in this century has been motivated by a desire to make the game more joyful, various, and articulate, while nearly every style change in fine art has been, in some way, motivated by the opposite agenda” Moreover, in Jackson’s paint, not only reflect a picture, but also reflect his mind and heart which can express his emotion.
I cannot figure out what the art real is. Is that anything has relationship with art in the world? Does they interact each other?

In the article “Why is This Man Smiling?” by Lawrence Weschler. This article attracts my mind because the author posted two pictures which are the same man’s face with different expression. In order to analysis people’s face expression by using comparing two picture. I like these two sentences “The challenge is enormous: The face's 44 muscles are capable of producing some 5,000 different expressions” and “500 activating commands are arranged by facial feature. For the right brow there's Raised, Mad, Sad - 15 in all.” It is improving my knowledge in art and culture.
I cannot understand what this sentence meaning “Along the same lines, director and producer Andrew Niccol, who wrote the Truman Show screenplay, is finishing up S1m0ne, in which a down-and-out film director tries to pass off an entirely digital actress as the real thing.” What is the meaning of S1m0ne? Some sentences are very abstract that I cannot understand what is meaning of it.
